Fuel is delivered to this injector already pressurised by the rail. What it contributes is timing and atomisation — opening and closing within milliseconds, several times per combustion event on modern engines. Small changes in spray pattern or opening behaviour show up quickly as noise, smoke and rising consumption. Common indicators are rough or unstable idle, smoke that was not there before, higher fuel consumption on the same duty cycle, diesel knock under load, and in some cases fuel dilution of the engine oil from an injector that is leaking internally. Because those symptoms also point to compression, turbocharger or air-side problems, it is worth confirming before ordering. A return-flow (back-leakage) test across all injectors and a cylinder cut-out test will usually identify both whether the fault is injector-related and which cylinder is responsible. Installation notes: new copper washers and seals are mandatory, the seat must be clean and undamaged, and the retainers should be torqued to the engine manufacturer's specification. If the ECU stores injector codes for this engine, program them after fitting, otherwise the engine will not compensate correctly. After reassembly the unit is bench-tested — delivery, return flow, opening pressure and leakage — and only units inside specification are dispatched.
