What it contributes is timing and atomisation — opening and closing within milliseconds, several times per combustion event on modern engines. Small changes in spray pattern or opening behaviour show up quickly as noise, smoke and rising consumption. Watch for hard hot starting, uneven idle, visible smoke, a misfire that clears when the engine is revved, and consumption creeping up without any change in operating conditions. Do a return-flow check before buying anything. Comparing leak-off volumes between cylinders takes minutes, and if one injector returns far more than its neighbours, that single test has answered the question. Installation notes: new copper washers and seals are mandatory, the seat must be clean and undamaged, and the retainers should be torqued to the engine manufacturer's specification. If the ECU stores injector codes for this engine, program them after fitting, otherwise the engine will not compensate correctly. How we build it: the unit is fully disassembled, cleaned and measured, not simply resealed. Wear items — seals, springs, and where clearance is out of specification the plunger and barrel or nozzle assemblies — are replaced rather than reused. Sealing faces and bores are re-machined back to original clearances, then the unit is calibrated and run on a bench with delivery, return flow, opening pressure and leakage recorded.
