Every injection event depends on this pump producing pressure at exactly the right moment. Because it also carries its own lubrication, poor supply pressure and fuel dilution do disproportionate damage — which is why the supply side should always be checked alongside the pump itself. The pattern is normally cumulative: slightly harder starting, then noticeable power loss, then smoke and unstable idle. Where the drive seal has failed, diesel in the lubricating oil is the warning that should stop you running the engine. Confirm you actually need a pump. Verify supply pressure at the inlet, check for air ingress and restrictions, and have delivery and timing tested on the bench — many 'worn pumps' turn out to be supply faults. Fitting notes: timing is everything here. Set the pump against the engine's timing marks rather than forcing anything, prime thoroughly before cranking, and check that the lift pump is delivering adequate supply pressure. Also replace the mounting seal and confirm there is no air left in the system before the first start. How we build it: the unit is fully disassembled, cleaned and measured, not simply resealed. Wear items — seals, springs, and where clearance is out of specification the plunger and barrel or nozzle assemblies — are replaced rather than reused. Sealing faces and bores are re-machined back to original clearances, then the unit is calibrated and run on a bench with delivery, return flow, opening pressure and leakage recorded.
