0440008068 is supplied as a remanufactured replacement priming pump. Cross-reference numbers: 0440008068. Every injection event depends on this pump producing pressure at exactly the right moment. Because it also carries its own lubrication, poor supply pressure and fuel dilution do disproportionate damage — which is why the supply side should always be checked alongside the pump itself. The pattern is normally cumulative: slightly harder starting, then noticeable power loss, then smoke and unstable idle. Where the drive seal has failed, diesel in the lubricating oil is the warning that should stop you running the engine. Confirm you actually need a pump. Verify supply pressure at the inlet, check for air ingress and restrictions, and have delivery and timing tested on the bench — many 'worn pumps' turn out to be supply faults.
